Most nations, even the poorest ones, tend to go out of their way to ensure that the members of their defense forces are well paid. We are keen on understanding the main reason as to why nations pay the members of their defense forces well.

The first reason as to why nations pay the members of their defense forces well is to show appreciation for the difficult and risky work done by the members of the defense forces. It is argued that the members of the defense forces are people who, almost literally, put their lives on the line for their countries, and their ‘sacrifice’ therefore has to be appreciated through them being paid as well as possible.

The second reason as to why nations pay the members of their defense forces well is to ensure that the members of the defense forces are satisfied, and thus unlikely to take part in things like coups. This is actually the main reason as to why nations make every effort to pay the members of their defense forces well. Besides being paid well, the members of the defense forces are often given free education for their kids, alongside other things like health benefits. The members of the defense forces are, in turn, supposed to reciprocate, by knowing that their place in the civilized world is in the barracks, not in the palaces!
